Being Mentally Healthy: What the heck does that mean?

Being Mentally Healthy means to take care of your mental health the same as you would your physical health. In this day and age of work, marriage, kids, social life and other various factors, we often neglect our mental health. Many of us take the time to hit the gym and work out our physical bodies but many of us do not take the time to work out our mental health. According to a national study completed by the American Psychiatric Association, (2019), less than 23% of people take time during the day to de-stress.

So how do I de-stress?

De-stressing means taking the time to do some self-care. This can include reading a book, going for a walk, taking a bath, meditation, watching a favorite movie, spending time with family, sitting on the patio, gazing at the stars or anything that is relaxing. Self-care is vital to improving your mental health as it allows your brain to reset itself from the days activity. Self-care can also play a vital role in quality sleep.

Schedule a time for Self-Care!

We must set aside time each day for self-care. Just like we schedule time to eat, work, exercise, or watch tv, we must schedule a time to do self-care or it will not become part of our lives. Incorporating self-care into our life goes a long way towards having better mental health and when we have good mental health, we can take better care of ourselves and those we love.
